Civic Amenity sites or CA sites in short, is place where the public can dispose garbage which is further subject to treatment. The site also undertakes recycling of certain waste components if it is well equipped. It is usually run by government agencies and is critical for the existence of a hygiene environment. In some cases, there are separate areas to deal with wastes capable of being recycled which include glass and metals. Civic amenity sites could also be sites that have been allotted to provide specific public service like the sites allotted for the construction of parks, playgrounds etc. There is a striking contrast and distinction between civic amenities and civic amenity sites. Civic amenities are the facilities that the government and corporations offer to the general public which include electricity, water, railways, flyovers, public toilets, public phone booths, and the term is inclusive of the service provided for the disposal of waste and waste products. Any form of public service offered to the public could be referred to as civic amenities. When it comes to management of waste, Civic Amenity sites have a critical role to play in dealing with the enormous amounts of waste and waste products that humans dispose off. Of Late, these sites have been handling the treatment of electronic waste also. Civic amenity cites are located in many parts of the city of Bangalore. The recent developments that have involved the Bangalore Development Authority taking considerably strict measures to reclaim unused sites and convert them into civic amenity sites is on the cards. Lalbagh in Bangalore is a civic amenity site. It is one of the most famous places to visit in Bangalore. There are lots of irregularities that have become rampant in claiming ownership to civic amenity sites. The BDA conducted a survey in 2011-12 and identified more than 2000 acres of land being illegally encroached upon by well off persons and the BDA has just been able to recover just about 80 odd acres. In Bangalore, there are believed to be 1363 CA sites of which 15% have been identified as being vacant. The BDA act, 1976 states that a civic amenity site is a site that is appropriated and approved by the BDA.
