In Malayalam, the word ‘Chellanam’ means the place where no one goes. It is split into Chella and Vanam. The king of Kochi when he won a battle under the Captain by name Thobias Cappithan, the kind presented piece of land to the Captain as a reward for winning the battle known as Chellavanam meaning forest. But the Captain Thobias Cappithan along with his family settled here and the place came to be known as Chellavanam. Presently it is known as Chellanam.
